What else can I say about the government? Both governments at State and federal levels are just confused. Yes, they’re in total confusion and that’s why we are where we are till today. You carryout Lockdown orders for just 5 days to relaxe it in two days time, just when the people are about to return and observe the lockdown in accordance with the governor Wike’s directives, he further extends it from Thursday to Sunday after making people spend the little they have this trying time, clustering and exposing them to danger as they hurry to get their neccesary needs so they could return to the lockdown. Now, we hear it has been extended till Sunday. Is this the way to help curtail the spread of the virus? Virus that has 2 to 14 days incubation period? Especially as cases keep increasing in Rivers state. Now, the days lifted are more than enough to cause further spread as people would be rushing and clustering to get what they want so they can return to the lockdown.
At times I wonder if these leaders actually know the reason for lockdown or they just want to exercise power over the citizenry. Why don’t they learn from other countries that have been on lockdown since the beginning of this pandemic. That’s why I so much love this man president Putin (Russian president), he said and I quote ” Africa is blessed but the problem they have is their Leaders”.
Lockdown should be a powerful instrument towards winning this war with Covid_19 but it seems our leaders are playing over it because they don’t actually understand the meaning of lockdown. An effective lockdown is observed for a complete 14 days at least. If they cannot carryout a complete 14 days lockdown in line with the incubation period of the virus then no need for the lockdown because it won’t yield excellent result.
